Lee Thomas Richardson (he/him) is a first-year PhD student in Music Theory at Columbia University. Originally from Georgia, Lee Thomas grew up playing saxophone and bluegrass mandolin before receiving a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory from the University of Georgia. He also holds a Master of Music with a Certificate in Music History Pedagogy from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
LT’s research largely concerns intersections of music theory and popular musical culture. He is currently interested in the unique musical theorization that occurs within fandom communities, particularly on social media (i.e., “stan Twitter”). These topics touch a plethora of interests including celebrity and fan theory, critical theory, public musicology/music theory, and the history of music theory. His early research has been presented at the New England Conference forMusic Theorists, the Oxford Music Analysis Conference, and the Graduate Students in Music Conference.
