Area

Omer Barash‘s music often addresses questions of betweenness and identity, considering both their sounding and conceptual aspects. Much of his work is the result of personal interpretations of Hebrew texts and traditions, and the soundscapes that surround him, leading to projects that span ancient manuscripts and digital signal processing. He has closely collaborated with such groups as Ensemble Modern and Meitar Ensemble, and with individuals like Pierre-AndrĂ© Valade, Keren Motseri, and Benjamin Alunni.

Born in Israel in 1995, Barash received his first training in composition at the Israel Arts and Science Academy (IASA) high-school. He then studied at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, McGill University, and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and completed the IRCAM Cursus Program on Composition and Computer Music in Paris. His main mentors have been Yinam Leef, Ari Ben-Shabetai, Philippe Leroux, Karlheinz Essl, Pierre Jodlowski, and Claudia Scroccaro.
