Composition

Yiqi Xue is a composer whose musical language is driven by the concepts of soundscapes and the fusion of diverse and intriguing timbres. Her works often feature dialogues both between and within instruments and media, exploring impulses through intricate sonic textures. As a lover of words and visual art, Yiqi draws deep inspiration from philosophy, poetry, literature, Chinese calligraphy, and painting. Her creative practice spans a wide spectrum; alongside her concert music, she also creates original video and visual components for her multimedia works. She received her M.M. degree from The Juilliard School, where she studied with composer Melinda Wagner. She earned her B.M. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, studying with Chen Yi, Zhou Long, Paul Rudy, and Yotam Haber.

Her works have been performed at festivals including June in Buffalo, The Sounds of US at the Kennedy Center, and the Intermedia Art Festival. Her music has been performed by ensembles such as the Arditti Quartet, Cassatt Quartet, and the Juilliard Orchestra. She is a recipient of the 2023 and 2025 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Awards.
