Deirdre Loughridge is an Associate Professor of Music at Northeastern University. Her first book, Haydn’s Sunrise, Beethoven’s Shadow: Audiovisual Culture and the Emergence of Musical Romanticism (University of Chicago Press, 2016), won the Kenshur Prize for outstanding monograph in eighteenth-century studies. A 2019-20 member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, she is currently at work on a book about music’s roles in understandings of human-machine relations in the eighteenth century as well as more recently, including in the work of Daphne Oram.
