Medgar Evers College
Edison O. Jackson Auditorium
1638 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11225

Dr. Courtney Bryan will deliver a talk on the theme of "Composing Music for Healing and Liberation." On the campus of Medgar Evers College, Bryan will discuss the process that led to her writing pieces like Sanctum (for orchestra and recorded sound), Yet Unheard (for orchestra, chorus and soprano) and her own interpretations of classic spirituals. Bryan will touch on historical examples that have informed her own work, and will take participants inside the process of celebrating and updating this canon of song.

Presented in cooperation with the Department of Mass Communications Creative and Performing Arts and Speech at Medgar Evers College, and with Dr. Patricia Ramsey, college president.

Admission is free, but RSVP is encouraged.
