Daniel R. Melamed is professor emeritus of musicology at the Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. He is the author of Hearing Bach's Passions and Listening to Bach: The Mass in B Minor and the Christmas Oratorio, both for general readers, as well as J. S. Bach and the German Motet and (with Michael Marissen) An Introduction to Bach Studies. He is the past president of the American Bach Society, and director of the Bloomington Bach Cantata Project. With Michael Marissen he is co-author of BachCantataTexts.org, a historically informed translation project.
