Inclusion & Diversity Events
The Committee on Inclusion and Diversity offers various events annually to establish a safe and inclusive environment in the Department of Music.
In fall 2020, the Organization of Music Graduate Students for which Lauren Bernard (Historical Musicology) served as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer organized three Equity Workshops for the Department.
In 2020-21, undergraduate member Paisley Smith (Barnard College class of 2021) conducted an informative survey of music majors and concentrators that highlighted their observations and hopes regarding diversity in the department.
In 2021-22, Professor Susan Boynton (Historical Musicology) organized a series of three workshops, Peer-Reviewed Journal Publishing from the Perspectives of Editors and Authors, Views from the Inside: Inclusion, Diversity and Equity in the Editing and Publishing of Peer-Reviewed Journals, and Working Towards Equity and Inclusion in Journal Publication. All three workshops were supported by the Committee on Equity and Diversity of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and discussed inclusivity, equity, and diversity in peer-reviewed journal publishing. These discussions were presented by the Heyman Center for the Humanities and sponsored by the Department of Music.
