Mary Monroe is Assistant Director of Music at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, Florida and she remains engaged in music research. She received her BA in piano and sacred music at Carroll College in Wisconsin, her Master's in Sacred Music from the School of Sacred Music at Union Theological Seminary in New York, and her PhD in historical musicology from Columbia University. At Columbia she was Director of the Collegium Musicum, taught music humanities, and served as Associate Organist at Columbia's St. Paul's Chapel, where she taught organ. Mary had a long career as a church musician in New York and was active as a performer, teacher, conductor, and handbell specialist, before moving to Jacksonville in 2008. She joined St. Mark's in 2010. Mary's many interests include figure skating, and she is currently advancing through a sequence of tests and competitions.
