Sean Russell Hallowell — aka isorhythmics — is a composer and video artist from Occidental, CA. He synthesizes experimental techniques developed from handmade circuitry with a cosmic perspective on music as a conduit for physical and metaphysical energy. His music has been showcased at venues and festivals across the US as well as internationally in Mexico, Chile, South Korea, Japan, Belgium, the UK, Croatia, Poland, and Iceland. Immersive audiovisual works have been installed at galleries in San Francisco, New York City, and London. His art is inspired by outmoded media technologies like analog tape and cathode-ray tube televisions. Through them, he explores the phenomenon of lived time in relation to the four "arts of number" that Medieval Europe called the “quadrivium” — music, arithmetic, geometry, and astronomy. He wrote his dissertation at Columbia (PhD, 2013) on the déploration tradition of the 14th to 16th centuries.
