Introducing the Antiracist Music Pedagogy Bibliography Project: A Workshop for Graduate Students and Faculty

Friday, April 23rd, 10:30 am- 12:00 p.m.

Pedagogical Resources for Antiracist Teaching

Dear Colleagues and Friends of the Music Department,

Over the past year, a group of graduate students consisting of Gabrielle Ferrari, Katherine Balch, Audrey Amsellem, Calder Hannan, and Jesse Chevan has been working with the support of Ana M. Ochoa and the department on a large, public-facing resource to facilitate antiracist pedagogical practices in the Music Department. We are so pleased to announce the launch of this resource, found here. The bibliography includes over 250 items, ranging from introductory materials on antiracism to focused entries meant for instructor reference and class assignments with an eye to the specific needs of our department. We hope it will serve as a valuable tool for graduate students and faculty who are seeking to build equitable and antiracist classrooms.

To celebrate the launch, we are pleased to invite all members of the department to a workshop held on Zoom on April 23rd. In this workshop, the creators of the resource will introduce the project and provide models for possible application in the music classroom. The remainder of the workshop will take the form of a collaborative conversation, in which the attendees and the hosts will brainstorm further ideas for the implementation of the resources into our current teaching practices.

This workshop will take place on Friday, April 23rd, 10:30 AM-12:00 PM EST
Attached here is an RVSP form, to help us to better estimate the attendance.
