 BIOGRAPHY

John Melendez is a jazz pianist. At age 8, He started playing piano. At 12, he began studying jazz and
music theory at the Rutgers Mason Gross Extension School. He has studied with Oscar Macchioni, Andy
Michalec Stanley Cowell, Marc Stasio and Bill O’Connell. His favorite keyboard players are Brad Mehldau
and Herbie Hancock. At Columbia he studies piano with Bruce Barth, composition with Ole Mathiesen
and performs in various ensembles as part of the Music Performance Program. His group, Big Sur, plays
regularly at clubs in New York.


 All events are sponsored by Columbia University's Music Performance Program and are free and open to the public.

 Mid-Day Music @ Columbia offers live music to a general audience, following the tradition established by Aaron Warner and Isidor Isaac Rabi, great lovers of music whose memories live on at Faculty House.
