Artun Çekem named co-winner of Talea Ensemble’s 2024 Early Career Composer Commission

Artun Çekem is a composer born in Istanbul, Turkey. He primarily finds inspiration in the uncanny, and more prominently, the uncanniness that is latent within anthropomorphic entities. Some recurring themes in his works are: uncanny aesthetics, defamiliarization, internet subcultures, and an exploration of a liminal zone between what may be perceived as "human" and "non-human." His works have been performed in concerts and festivals across Turkey, Europe, Japan, and the United States.
