Professor Mariusz Kozak was interviewed by Columbia College News about the recently launched program in Cognitive Science, which he is directing.
Cognitive Science is an interdisciplinary subject, combining concepts from psychology, neuroscience, the arts, economics, and linguistics, to name a few. It is the first interdisciplinary major to be offered jointly by the College and Barnard. The aim of a major like this, according to Kozak, is to cultivate Columbia students who can approach issues from multiple points of view. As he says in the article, "Interdisciplinary thinking is a precondition for helping create a modern world that fosters humanity in all its guises."
