Kai Fikentscher holds degrees in jazz studies from Berklee College of Music and Manhattan School of Music. He received his PhD in Ethnomusicology from Columbia in 1996. He has taught at Columbia, NYU, Tufts University, Amherst Colelge, Rhode Island School of Design, and Ramapo College of New Jersey. He published his book "You Better Work! Underground Dance Music in New York in 2000.
