Dr. Gabrielle Ferrari (GSAS '24) published a new essay on recent performances in New York City for The New York Times. The essay focuses on two recent concert programs produced by Jonathon Heyward, music director and artistic director of the Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center: “A Mother’s Love” (July 31–Aug. 1) and “New Beginnings” (Aug. 7–8). In the essay, Ferrari examines both series through their programming choices. Heyward deftly navigates the tension between programming new pieces and established fan favorites that orchestras face. She argues that Heyward succeeds because of his strong curatorial instinct.
