Joe Block, a graduate of the Columbia–Juilliard dual-degree program (BA ’21, MM ’22), has released There Is Always Hope, his debut as a bandleader. He is also a Steinway Artist and award-winning pianist, composer, arranger, and musical director. There Is Always Hope is his first album composed of only original works. It was produced through Blue Engine Records, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s in-house record label. It is available on all digital streaming platforms now, with physical release dates to be announced.
The record features trumpeter Noah Halpern; saxophonists Chris Lewis, Morgan Guerin, Dylan Band, and Abdias Armenteros; bassist Samuel Harris; drummer Christian McGhee; and special guest Kurt Rosenwinkel.
To celebrate the album release, the Joe Block Quintet will perform There Is Always Hope live in its entirety at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy's Club on September 28, with performances at 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Tickets are available at jazz.org/dizzys. The performances will also be available to livestream at JazzLive.com. This will be the first time the group has played the album live.
