The Department warmly congratulates Lauren Bernard, who successfully defended her PhD dissertation in Music (Historical Musicology), titled “Chaotic Blackness, Black Gesture, and Black Posthumanism in Afrofuturist Music,” on October 25, 2024. Lauren's dissertation was advised by Professor George Lewis, and her committee included Professors Seth Cluett, Ruth OparaShana Redmond and Brent Edwards.
