The Department warmly congratulates Manuel García-Orozco, who successfully defended his PhD dissertation in Music (Ethnomusicology), “Bullerengue and Cantadoras: Elderly Women Singers' Knowledge, Memory, and Affect in the Afro-Colombian Caribbean,” on April 26, 2024. Manuel's dissertation was advised by Professors Chris Washburne and Ana María Ochoa Gautier (Tulane), and his committee included Professors Ruth Opara, Licia Fiol-Matta (NYU) and Jossianna Arroyo-Martínez (UT Austin).
