Gabriela Kumar Sharma has translated the book “Three from Jerusalem” by Arnošt Lustig from Czech into English. To mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Czech writer Arnošt Lustig, Masaryk University’s publishing house, MUNIPRESS, is releasing a special anthology of his previously unpublished short stories, reportages, and essays titled “Three from Jerusalem.” These early works by Arnošt Lustig are being published in book form for the first time, simultaneously in Czech and English. The compilation “Three from Jerusalem,” edited by Myra Goldberg (Sarah Lawrence College) and Lea Novotná (Masaryk University Press), is being published as part of a commemorative edition of Arnošt Lustig’s fiction and non-fiction within the framework of FestivAL100, organized by the Arnošt Lustig Foundation. The event is held under the patronage of Czech President Petr Pavel, South Moravian Region Governor Jan Grolich, Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková, the Czech National Commission for UNESCO, and other renowned institutions.
This centenary has also been included on UNESCO’s prestigious list of significant anniversaries for the period 2026–2027.
