The Department warmly congratulates Paola Cossermelli Messina, who successfully defended her PhD dissertation in Music (Ethnomusicology), “Listening for Bilad al-Shām in São Paulo: expressions of “baladī belonging” through music and sound,” on November 20, 2025. Paola's dissertation was advised by Professor Alessandra Ciucci, and her committee included Professors Aaron Fox, Kevin Fellezs, Nour El Rayes (The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University) and John Tofik Karam (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign).
